THE STORY
A machine shop for the next generation.
Essex Tech opened in 2014 on 166 acres in Hathorne, a $133 million campus. Its manufacturing shop needed machines that matched a working job shop. Compumachine supplied them.

What went in
Hyundai WIA machining and turning centres, a Hanwha Swiss lathe, Victor manual lathes and mills, a CAD/CAM room and FANUC control simulators: the same equipment New England shops were buying.

The opening
Superintendent Dan O'Connell cut the ribbon on November 20, 2014, with Hyundai WIA, Mastercam and Compumachine beside him. Nearly a hundred area shops came.

Why it mattered
Local manufacturers backed the centre because they needed the graduates. Under a five-year naming partnership, students trained on the machines they would be hired onto.
